Welcome and thank you for renting a storage unit at Blue Door RV & Self Storage, LLC. We hope your stay with us will be a pleasant one. To help ensure this, here are some guidelines you may want to follow:

  1. You may text us, or leave a message on our answering service at (605) 201-0687, or notify us by mail. All mailing (billing or otherwise) at Blue Door RV & Self Storage LLC, PO Box 90634, Sioux Falls, SD 57109-0634.
  2. Always use your unit number, or slot number/letter, when contacting or making payments. It is important to us for you to place your unit number on your checks for accurate accounting.
  3. In order to help keep our records up to date and to avoid further billing, please notify our office when you vacate your storage unit.
  4. Every tenant is given their own personal access code to enter the premises. With a pencil, write your access code on the door jamb of your car so you always have it handy.  For security reasons, please refrain from giving your access number or a key to your storage unit to anyone else. It is not the responsibility of Blue Door RV & Self Storage, LLC to determine whom you have given access to your storage unit. If their code does not allow them access, they may be locked out of the facility on purpose.
  5. DO NOT follow another vehicle through the automatic access gate. Always make sure your access number is working before entering. If you are locked out, call us. If you have been locked out for any reason, it is criminal trespass to enter the premise.
  6. DO NOT park your RV in a slot, other than the slot specifically given to you. If you park in another slot, you may be subject to towing at your own expense. You may also be liable for double billing. When someone parks in someone else’s slot, it creates a domino effect for the next person.
  7. When leaving, please approach the gate slowly. The gate will open when it detects your vehicle.
  8. CAUTION:  Please keep young children in the vehicle. Exercise extreme caution near the automatic gate.  Do not let children play on or approach the automatic gate.  Getting caught in the mechanisms or gate could cause serious injury or death.
  9. Place a good quality lock on your door promptly, even if it will be vacant for a few days. Cheap locks rust and do not provide good security. Always lubricate your lock, especially in the winter, to prevent freezing and promote ease of operation. We do not hold keys for tenants.  Our storage facilities are checked for vacancies, and a lock on the door is our best way of knowing that you are still using your unit, and aid in security. In the event that we notice that a lock is not placed on your unit, we will call you to ask that you promptly place a lock on your unit. We will place one of our locks on your unit and bill accordingly if we fail to make contact with you. Should you lose the key to your lock, please do not attempt to cut the lock yourself. This may cause damage to the door or latch of your storage unit, making it difficult or impossible to re-lock. Please contact management if you need a lock cut to avoid charges for damages.
  10. The name, address and telephone number you write on your lease are the only ways we have of contacting you should a problem arise with your rental. If you have a change in any of these, please be responsible and notify us of any change in name, address or telephone number that would affect our ability to notify you in case of a problem.

Plan your storage space

  1. Place those items that you may need to access often in the front. Allow for walkways.
  2. Make up an inventory of your stored items and keep it in a safe place at home or in a safe deposit box.
  3. Place your storage items on 2 x 4 boards or pallets to guard against dampness. Any concrete floor may become cold or damp. Please remove boards or pallets when you vacate the unit to avoid dumping fees.  Prepare your space by placing a protective cover on the floor under your goods. This will also help keep moisture away from your items.
  4. Use uniform size boxes. Be sure your boxes are strong enough to hold 24lbs to 30lbs. (It is best not to put too much in each box.)
  5. List contents of boxes on all four sides. Number the boxes and seal them with tape. Stack lighter boxes on top of heavier boxes.
  6. Dishes and glasses should be wrapped in paper and packed in sturdy boxes. Stack them on top. Pictures and mirrors should be wrapped in cardboard, marked “Fragile” and stacked on end.
  7. Furniture with drawers can be utilized as storage places for pictures, knick-knacks, china, silverware, small items etc. Wrap them in tablecloths, towels or blankets to prevent breakage. Larger appliances also make excellent “packing cases” for blankets, towels, tablecloths, and clothes.
  8. Shovels, hoes, rakes and hoses can be stored together in empty trashcans. Stack extra cans inside one another.
  9. Tables having removable legs should be “broken down” to save space.
  10. Sofas and love seats can be stored on end to save floor space. Always place a protective cover under the item on the concrete. Cushions should be wrapped in plastic and placed on top. Cover stuffed furniture with cardboard or blankets to protect against dust. If you stand mattresses on their side, prop them up so they stand straight. They may tend to bend out of shape and become lumpy.
  11. Do not place heavy or sharp objects on top of upholstered furniture.
  12. Carry insurance on your property. Blue Door RV & Self Storage, LLC cannot insure your possessions, and cannot be held liable.
